The Birds and the Bees?

E - "Mommy, today I am going to be C's teacher! I am going to teach her the abc's, 123's and the birds and the bees!"

Me - "The birds and the bees.....?" (wondering to myself exactly what it was she felt expert enough to teach little C about such a subject....)

E - "Yes! I will teach her all about the Carpenter Bees because C is afraid of those."

Indeed, the use of her phrasing caused me to momentarily forget about a flowering bush outside a window that has made a wonderful observatory for us to closely monitor the comings and goings of several types of bees and yellow jackets. The largest and most fearful looking is the Carpenter Bee but it should be least feared by little children because the males we see buzzing about most often do not have a stinger.
