You know you are a seriously out-of-the-loop homeschool mother when you find out about the Catholic Homeschooling Conference of the year from a friend only two days before the event. YIKES!! Considering that it was advertised in our very own Catholic Newspaper, the fault is my own for being too darn busy to read it!!
In spite of the lack of notice, I was able to attend yesterday. I came home with arms full of great books and visions of a wonderful school year ahead. I was all set to return to the event today, but my littlest one has been sick since 2:30 a.m. I don't think it is a virus, but until her tummy settles, there isn't any chance of my being able to leave the house. :-(
I love seeing Moms I haven't seen in a year or longer and catching up with their lives and their children. I love hearing the inspirational talks reminding me why homeschooling my children is such an important vocation even if I've heard it all before. I don't so much like the talks only geared to selling the speaker's particular curriculum, but I took that time to work out my schedule for next year as I thought it would be rude to get up and leave. I loved winning the first door prize!! It was an absolutely beautiful framed picture of the Holy Family!! I'll find a nice home for it - likely right next to my bell when I get it. The two will be continuous reminders for me to give each day my best especially on days when I feel I have little to offer.
Like today, for instance, when lack of sleep will test my patience. I am only awake because I still have hope that her stomach will settle and I can return for just a few more talks, another chance to look at all the great books and the blessing of seeing old friends.....maybe..... just maybe.......
