O.K. I had to get galoshes for the kids for them to really participate in the gardening experience. Target loves me for this. With all the rain they've been put to great use!
See how they are being used?! I think Nobby decided she could run faster if she took them off. She wants you to follow her so she can show you our new gardens.
This is the first raised bed! Tink's boyfriend labored for several days to make these for us. I'm thrilled. He gets high marks in my book! I've wanted a real garden for about 20 years!! This bed contains tomato and pepper plants. I also planted lettuce, kale, spinach, pea and basil seeds. There are a few marigolds and a cilantro plant as well.
This is the second raised bed. DH says my little fencing (barely visible) will not keep the bunnies out, so we'll have to get something else. This bed contains tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and marigolds.
Here is the third raised bed. This one may not get enough sunlight but I'm sure something will grow here. :-) I planted corn, sunflower, pumpkin, cucumber and watermelon seeds.
This little guy has been here for years but is shaded most of the time by a tree whose beautiful pink blossoms are raining down upon it. The kids love to play here. We planted a few strawberry plants and a chamomile just to see how they would do.
I implemented the Square Foot Gardening method. We'll see if old Mel will be proud of my accomplishments by the end of the summer. If it fails I can always photoshop some beautiful plants in and make it a virtual garden. :-)
