Tigger's cub scout group toured the rock quarry today. This was likely the most amazing field trip I've attended. It isn't every day one gets to see the side of a granite mountain disintegrate into a cloud of smoke while the ground shakes beneath the feet. Then we drove 2 1/2 miles around ramps down to where the newly disintegrated rubble lay 850 feet below. The tour guide said we were the first group in a long time that has actually seen a blast and the only group ever to be allowed out of our cars at the detonation sight. It was our lucky day, I guess!
I've lost my voice due to a slight cold and from reading aloud too much I think. After Tomie dePaola we revisited "Little House on the Prairie". This book seemed to only keep the little girls' attention. Tigger and Rocky popped in and out when things sounded like they were getting exciting. If we ended a chapter and took a break I would tease the boys that some catastrophe struck the family and the book was over. This made Rocky listen a little more closely. Tigger found a book of his own to occupy his time. When my voice returns we will start something that appeals to a wider audience.
When my voice returns.... I am speaking at a whisper at the present. Tomorrow should be interesting. Is there a sign language on-line site? I'll go searching...

Did you know that whispering is worse for your voice? Stop talking unless absolutely necessary and then use your library voice, or less.
I find that when I'm serious about not talking to get my voice back the kids actually pay more attention to me. And I only say what needs to be said instead of lecturing. ;-)
