Out for a Run/Into The Deep
I headed out for a run this evening, late. I wasn't running to get my heart rate up as it was already sky high for reasons I will not mention here. (Let's just say that usually in 24 hours the things that seem important at the time reveal themselves to be VERY insignificant. Mentioning it here will only disappoint you.) I grabbed my Ipod and decided to listen to Into the Deep episode #59. It was the last episode covering the book The Spiritual Combat by Fr. Scupoli and this chapter happened to be on Final Perseverance. I was about to change to a different show because I didn't "feel" like listening to it, but am so glad I didn't. Normally I don't like to run this late as when the sun goes down the creepy things come out of hiding. Coming around the final block home there is a stretch of land where if the mosquitoes don't get you, the bats will. The whole effect of being in the dark, listening to this great podcast on the final moments of life, with mosquitoes buzzing around, bats dive-bombing my head and wolf spiders darting around in front of my feet made for a very interesting run. It really was a great episode and helped me deal with the insignificant things. The show was recorded back in July. You can link to it by clicking on the title of this post. A PDF copy of the book and links to all the podcasts can be found here: http://deepcast.blogspot.com/2006/12/text-of-spiritual-combat.html.

Wolf spiders? Really? Scary. I don't like being out in the dark by myself, especially if the breeze is blowing dried, dead leaves around. I also wouldn't like not being able to hear creepy things creeping up on me!
I'll have to check out that podcast.
Yikes! I guess I was too spooked by the things in front of me to even think of the things that could have possibly been behind me!
